“We were told she had refused to see a doctor” Oliech’s sister Elsie Oliech talks about her mother’s death

Kenyan football legend Dennis Oliech lost his mother Mama Mary Auma on July 20th. Mama Auma succumbed to cancer just two days after her son landed a plum job with the Nairobi County government.

Mama Oliech was first diagnosed with cancer way back in 2013. She developed breathing complications at her home in Lavington and passed on while being rushed to the hospital.

Unusual call

Oliech’s sister Elsie Oliech talked about circumstance leading to her mother’s death in an interview with the Nairobian. Elsie reveals that her mother made an unusual call to Kevin Oliech (Elsie’s brother) who is in Germany a day before she died.

Elsie say her mother talked to Kevin for a very long time giving him instructions on certain family properties.

“It is unusual for her to call Kevin. But on that day, she actually loaded airtime on her phone and talked to him for so long,” says Elsie.

She further reveals that her mother had refused to go see a doctor on the day that she passed on after workers informed them that she was unwell.

“The workers called to inform us that she was feeling unwell that morning. When we inquired whether it required her to be taken to hospital, we were told she had refused to see a doctor. So, we thought it was nothing serious, given she had spent the previous day at her restaurant. But by 4pm she had left us,” said Elsie.
